Breast cancer prevention: screening, an essential action for everyone – Part 2

In this second part, Laurence Dumondin reminds us that self-examination is an essential prevention gesture, but that it does not replace organized screening.

Self-examination is a simple gesture that every woman can do regularly. Laurence Dumondin advises not to panic if a small mass is detected. “It is not always synonymous with cancer, but it is essential to consult your doctor quickly for an accurate diagnosis“, she specifies. On the other hand, the absence of a lump detected does not mean that the invitation to screening should be ignored. Indeed, “not everything is felt upon palpation, hence the importance of having a mammogram.”

If you have not received your invitation, do not hesitate to check on your Ameli account. Otherwise, contact 3646 to check your eligibility and receive a new invitation.

For women under 50, although organized screening is not yet available, your doctor will be able to advise you whether a mammogram is necessary based on your family history and health.

Pink October is a month of awareness and action: take care of yourself, prevention is the first step towards health.
