I had to undergo a mastectomy of the left breast then, a year later, of the right breast as well as an ablation of the ovaries, for safety. As my cancer was aggressive, I followed two courses of chemotherapy. Despite this, I was not at peace for very long. Shortly after having breast reconstruction, I had a relapse in 2013. I had metastases in the femur and in one of my left ribs, it was badly engaged. So I had radiotherapy, then cementoplasty on the affected rib, plus hormone therapy. Fortunately for me, my new oncologist was then working at the CHUV and, in 2016, I was able to participate in an ongoing study on a new innovative drug, olaparib (targeted treatment, in particular intended for women with a BRCA mutation, editor’s note).
