As part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science organized by BUAP, the researcher at the National Institute of Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán, Yanin Chavarri Guerra, reported that there is currently a 6 percent increase in cases of Cancer; 37 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer die and are under 40 years of age. In addition, there are 3.8 million new cases of breast cancer that rank first, followed by lung and colon cancer.
“It was, as I was saying, to find out what the panorama of breast cancer was in Mexico, it took me a year to write this article; It is one of the most important articles I have written and the one that has had the most impact. From the things I learned was that breast cancer is really important in Mexico because there has been an increase in the number of cases; each year, they add up to more or less 6% and mainly occur in the central and northern states of the country ”.
Through Facebook, the specialist highlighted that at present the figures for breast cancer in Mexico are high and mainly occur in women who live in both central and northern states of the country; This is due to the fact that they have a limited diagnosis, which is why the disease is diagnosed in advanced stages.
“One is that mammography coverage is limited, there is no access to the equipment or they do not go, there are no radiologists and there are also delays in the health system that have to do with why our system is fragmented. So patients are not educated enough to seek early care; the problem is aggravated in rural communities where women dedicate themselves to their homes and children and have little information about it ”.
He added that the mortality of breast cancer in Mexico is high compared to the incidence, which occurs at about 37 percent each year, and compared to more developed countries such as the United States and Canada, the figures are doubled in our country. country.
