The fight against breast cancer in the country could receive a great ally in the, hopefully, very near future. And the Christian Social Unity Party announced that one of its projects to make treatment more accessible, advanced in the Economic Affairs Commission.
What the project seeks is to exempt breast cancer screening exams and treatments related to it from the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT).
Few know but, currently, medical treatments related to the detection of breast cancer pay 4% VAT and, if the proposal is approved, this tax would disappear.
BEEN: Man felt a lump in his chest, thought it was a sports injury and was breast cancer
To give you an idea of the cost, on average, a mammogram ranges from 95,000 to 196,000 colones. With this project, costs could drop to between 90,000 and 190,000 colones.
The idea of this project is not only to contribute a grain of sand in the fight against cancer, but also to encourage carrying out these exams preventively, with much more regularity.
BEEN: A woman was given six months to live due to breast cancer, she became pregnant and a miracle happened
And considering that early detection is the key to most successful cases of cancer, this initiative could help reduce the risks.
All this effort would be accompanied by a national awareness campaign, led by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Education.
