Mexicali.- Dina Lupercio is one of the artists who exhibited during the event “For love of life” organized by the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Mexicali (Imacum) this Tuesday, in which health care and the prevention of breast cancer.
The inspiration that Dina had was her sister, who died from having suffered from this cancer, which over time spread to other parts of the body.
Lupercio studied Information Sciences and Techniques, where he had some design classes, but it was not until his sister fell ill that he reaffirmed his interest in exercising some form of expression of plastic art.
Professor Víctor Larios was the one who motivated her to paint and even experiment with other techniques.
About 8 years ago she had commented to the teacher that she could not participate in an exhibition that they wanted the paintings to be donated, derived from the family situation she was experiencing due to her sister’s cancer, to which Larios insisted that precisely That is why he had to participate, to use art as a catharsis.
Upon entering art, Dina created a piece in which she describes one of the phases of breast cancer, which was exhibited at the event promoted by Imacum.
The budding artist said that one of her main motivations is to promote prevention, so that more people do not die because they did not identify a breast tumor in time.
“It occurred to me to do it like this in pink to give the opportunity to think that life goes on despite having a scar, because it is very impressive.”
Alfredo Wong López, head of Imacum, explained that this paramunicipal seeks to promote the culture of prevention in different areas, including health.
The event was enlivened with music by the local artist Germán Palazuelos, as well as a presentation by the dancer Elizabeth Ortega, who is a member of the representative group Dunas de dance contemporánea instructed by Aida Corral.
Personnel from the Ministry of Health, the Women’s Institute, students from Conalep Mexicali II and workers from the Guajardo neighborhood Health Center also participated.
There was an exhibition that since 2013 has been traveling and that is allusive to breast cancer awareness.
