Slayman himself is overjoyed. “This moment – that I can leave the hospital in good health – is what I have dreamed of for years,” he said, according to the hospital statement. “That has now become a reality.”
Immediately after the procedure, the doctors were positively surprised. “It’s the most beautiful kidney I’ve ever seen,” Slayman’s doctor said during a news conference.
Promising
It is possible that the body will reject the kidney at a later stage. David Klassen, responsible for organ donations in the US, calls the results so far promising in The New York Times. “While there is still a lot of work to be done, I believe this will benefit a large number of patients,” he says.
