(Sejong = Yonhap News) Reporter Chae Yeon = As online shopping grew rapidly due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), in November last year, online shopping and mobile shopping transactions exceeded 15 trillion won and 10 trillion won, respectively.

According to the online shopping trend of the National Statistical Office on the 5th, the amount of online shopping transactions in November last year rose to 15 trillion won for the first time since the preparation of statistics in 2001.

It increased 17.2% from a year ago and 5.8% from a month ago.

The amount of online shopping transactions remained around 12 trillion won in March-July last year, when the aftermath of Corona 19 was strong, and grew to 14 trillion won in August, and exceeded 15 trillion won in three months.

When looking at the amount of online shopping transactions in November by product group, home appliances, electronics, and communication devices (1.9 trillion won) were the most. Clothing (1.8 trillion won), food and beverages (1.8 trillion won), food service such as delivery food (1.7 trillion won), household goods (1.2 trillion won), and cosmetics (1.1 trillion won) followed.

These six product groups accounted for 63.3% of the total transaction value.

Food service (60.6%) was the highest in terms of the year-on-year increase. Including food service, food and beverages (47.1%), home appliances, electronic and communication devices (42.4%), household goods (36.0%), and other items with increased demand in the aftermath of Corona 19 were remarkable.

On the other hand, the demand for travel and transportation services (-52.0%) and cultural and leisure services (-65.8%), whose demand dropped sharply after Corona 19, declined significantly.

The proportion of online shopping product transactions excluding services out of total retail sales rose to 29.2%. It was 23.1% a year ago.

Mobile shopping has also grown rapidly, and in November last year, the transaction amount reached 10,25.9 trillion won. In January 2019, it has grown steadily from the 6 trillion won level and surpassed 10 trillion won for the first time since the statistics were written in 2013.

In November of last year, mobile shopping transactions increased 21.9% from a year ago and 7.5% from a month ago.

The proportion of mobile shopping among online shopping transactions was 68.1%, the largest since May last year (68.2%), and the second highest ever since statistics were written.

The product groups with a particularly high proportion of mobile shopping are food service (96.1%), e-coupon service (86.3%), bag (79.6%), and travel and transportation service (76.8%).
