Breaking the 4 GHz Barrier: Overclocking the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU

It is here. We finally managed to cross the magical border 4 GHz when overclocking the GPU. But before we get to this attempt, we should mention that in the last few days we have had two very successful attempts to overclock graphics cards GeForce RTX 4090. But let’s recap the situation of the last 2 weeks.

In the second half of June, overclocker CENS achieved a frequency of 3930 MHz and a time of 46s 383ms in the GPUPI 3.2 benchmark on a card from Colorful. A few days back (June 28th) overclocker Allen ‘Splave’ Golibersuch took back the lead, reaching a frequency of 3945 MHz and a time of 46s 77ms on an Asus card. It didn’t take long, however, and on July 5 it was announced that the frequency had been reached 3975 MHzwhich he took care of again CENSUS. In his case, the 4 GHz limit has not yet been conquered. For this, he again used the Colorful GeForce RTX 4090 iGame LAB graphics card, which he also used in the previous case with 3.93 GHz. We have one more interesting piece of information about this overclocking attempt. While the default consumption of the graphics card is supposed to be up to 515 W on paper, it took it when overclocked 1127 W. As for the time in GPUPI, it was able to reduce it to 45s 708ms.

Nevertheless, he did not succeed in breaking the magical 4 GHz limit, he was the lucky one Allen ‘Slave’ Golibersuch. He used the graphics card again Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 and he managed to reach the frequency 4005 MHz, on which he was able to complete the GPUPI 32B benchmark. The resulting test time was 45s 402ms, so it beat the previous record set by CENS by about 0.3 seconds. Interestingly, it managed to achieve an even higher frequency for the GPUPI 1B benchmark 4020 MHz. With a time of 825 milliseconds, it also achieved a single GPU world record here, breaking the previous GPUPI 1B record of 857 ms.
