Breaking: Sony Closes Firewalk Studios and Cancels Concord Game After Lackluster Launch

It may not come as a surprise, but Sony has shut down Concord developer Firewalk Studios. The publisher announced the news through a general statement, in which it also revealed that the mobile studio Neon Koi is also closing its doors. Some of the staff will be transferred to other PlayStation Studios, but not all.

As you know, Sony took Concord offline just 2 weeks after its launch. The reason was that the players particularly welcomed the game. However, Sony could have foreseen that, as the reactions to the release trailer were anything but positive.

Either way, Sony said it would explore the option of bringing Concord back in a modified form. It was not yet known what the game would be like. In a new statement, PlayStation co-CEO Hermen Hulst has now announced that the Concord project will be stopped altogether.

Hulst admits that some elements of Concord were great, even if the game didn’t quite resonate with players. According to the co-head, Sony took enough time to plan a new direction for the game, but in the end that would take too many resources. As a result, Concord is completely canceled and Firewalk Studios is closing its doors.

Despite the suspension, Sony remains committed to sufficient growth in the live service market. Maybe the Horizon multiplayer game is part of that.

What does that mean for the staff at Firewalk Studios? Hulst promises that Sony will do its best to move affected employees to other PlayStation Studios. Unfortunately, this is not possible for everyone, although Hulst thanks all the talented employees for their great contribution.

Firewalk Studios itself responded in a message on social media. You can read that below.
