Home European Championship I: Handball player with world record attempt
Germany’s top handball players will be on 10 January the home European Championships open in the Düsseldorf football stadium. At the opening game against Switzerland (live on ZDF), the previous world attendance record for handball is to be broken in the multifunctional arena. This currently stands at 44,189 fans who watched the Rhein-Neckar Löwen – HSV Hamburg game in the Frankfurt stadium in 2014.
The European Handball Championship will open in the Düsseldorf Arena on January 10th.

The other preliminary round games will be played in Mannheim and Munich, the main and final round in Hamburg and Cologne. The Cologne stadium ends on 28 January the “EHF EURO 2024” with the final. ARD and ZDF show many games live on TV and online.
Die Women’s Handball European Championship will take place from November 28th to December 15th with 24 teams in Switzerland, Austria and Hungary.
Winter sports with a focus on the Biathlon World Cup
The Four Hills Tournament (until January 6th) will follow Toboggan World Cup in Altenberg (January 26th to 28th), the Ski Flying World Championships at the Kulm in Bad Mitterndorf (January 26th to 28th) and the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships in Winterberg (February 22nd to March 3rd). In between, there is the highlight of the 2023/24 winter sports season Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto from February 7th to 18th.
