Breaking News, Travel Requirements: Java Bali Airplane Passengers Do Not Require PCR Test

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government again changes the provisions of the polymerase chain reaction test or PCR for airplane passengers. This time, passengers on intra-Java and Bali routes no longer need to pocket the swab test requirement.

“There will be changes for travel, for Java and Bali air travel will no longer require the use of PCR tests,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy at a press conference, Monday, November 1, 2021.

Muhadjir said that it was enough for passengers to show the Rapid test Antigen as applicable in areas outside Java and Bali. This policy has previously been proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The previous government required PCR tests for airplane passengers. Initially, the PCR test was mandatory for passengers in intra-Java and Bali as well as outside Java and Bali with PPKM level 3 and 4 statuses.

Then, the government changed the PCR test rules again. The swab test for airplane passengers is valid only in Java and Bali. However, the government had time to make PCR tests mandatory for all modes of transportation.

The obligation to test PCR has been rejected by the public. This rule is suspected to be burdensome for passengers. In addition, various parties questioned the government’s decision to require PCR tests amid the decline in the number of Covid-19 cases.
