Pabuçcu, at the press conference held at the faculty building, said that microalgae are actually very useful organisms.
Explaining that microalgae contribute 60 percent to atmospheric oxygen, Pabuçcu said, “When they see adverse conditions, they turn into a cystic structure. First they multiply, they ‘bloom’ and then they mucilage they produce. In the first stage, we detected the organisms in the mucilage with our study. What types of microalgae exist, we have identified it. We plan to evaluate the pharmaceutical ones and the mucilage itself,” he said.
