A report of a shooter in the U.S. Senate has the Capitol police on their toes. The call was made to 911, authorities said on social media. Minutes later, dozens of police cars surrounded the area.
They urged everyone in the Senate office buildings to take shelter, although there were no confirmed reports of shots being fired, the AP reports. Staff and journalists working in the building were sent emails instructing them to hide in a locked room, maintain complete silence and turn off their phones.
At the moment, the senators are on summer vacation, so there are no high-ranking officials in the building, world media note.
