Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Good news has returned regarding the development of the Covid-19 vaccine. Is a vaccine owned by Pfizer from the United States in collaboration with BioNTech (Germany). The latest news says the vaccine is effective at warding off the Covid-19 virus by more than 90% without any dangerous side effects.
This is the data published by the two pharmaceutical giants regarding final stage clinical trials, as reported by CNBC International, Monday (9/11/2020).
The effectiveness of the vaccine up to 90% is certainly good news because some experts estimate the effectiveness of the vaccine is only 75%. Previously, White House health adviser Anthony Fauci revealed a vaccine with an effectiveness of at least 50-60% that is acceptable to humans.
This news comes as a number of drug manufacturers and research centers around the world are racing to create a safe and effective vaccine because the virus has claimed more than 1.25 million lives.
Pfizer Chairman & CEO Albert Bourla said the latest developments were a wonderful day for science and humanity. The final efficacy of the vaccine is said to be safe.
“The first results from the phase three clinical trial of the vaccine indicate the ability of our vaccine to prevent Covid-19,” Bourla said in a statement.
“We are reaching the tipping point of this vaccine development program at a time when the world needs it as infections continue to hit records, hospital capacities are full and the economy is in shock.”
“With today’s news we are getting closer to providing vaccines to people around the world, and hopefully this will help end the world health crisis,” said Bourla.
The two companies plan to apply for emergency use of the vaccine to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the third week of November 2020.
Pfizer and BioNTech plan to produce 50 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine in 2020 and 1.3 billion doses in 2021. It is known that both have started their final phase of clinical trials in July 2020.
