KUALA LUMPUR, iNews.id – Prime Minister Malaysia Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday (28/5/2021) announced the implementation of total lockdown or a total national quarantine in their country. The move follows a spike in infections corona virus in Malaysia to record levels.
Total lockdown in Malaysia will start next month. Muhyiddin said the tighter lockdown lasted from June 1 to 14. The policy applies to all social and economic sectors. Only essential services will remain operational during this period.
Deployment Covid-19 in the Southeast Asian country in recent weeks has become very severe. That’s partly due to a highly contagious variant of the coronavirus. Hospitals in neighboring countries are now also starting to be overwhelmed by serving patients.
“With the recent increase in daily cases showing a drastic upward trend, the capacity of hospitals across the country to treat Covid-19 patients has been limited,” Muhyiddin said in a statement, quoted by Reuters. Reuters, today.
