TRIBUNSUMSEL.COM, PALEMBANG – The Kappa variant of the Covid-19 virus was detected in Jakarta and South Sumatra (Sumsel). However, it is not yet known how many South Sumatrans have been exposed to the Kappa variant.
“The Kappa variant of the Covid-19 virus has been detected in South Sumatra. However, we are still checking the data,” said Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Health Office, Lesty Nurainy, Monday (5/7/2021).
He further said that this was known after sending samples of Covid19 belonging to South Sumatra residents to the Ministry of Health.
“We always send samples randomly to the center, and it turns out that some of them have been detected with the Kappa variant of the corona virus,” he said.
However, related to the data of residents who were exposed to this virus, his party is still investigating. Because, until now, cross-checks are still being carried out on those detected to be exposed to the Kappa variant of the corona virus.
According to Lesty, this virus variant is almost similar to the Delta variant virus. So it spreads faster if someone is exposed to this Kappa virus.
According to him, exposure to the virus will certainly spread quickly, especially if someone who is exposed to the Covid-19 virus does mobility. The name is a virus, if it already exists in Indonesia, it will quickly spread to other areas.
“This is our function, we must reduce mobility. Then continue to apply health protocols (Prokes) properly such as wearing masks, maintaining distance and diligently washing hands with soap,” he ordered.
According to him, maintaining Prokes is a solution and a key that must be tightened. The public must obey so that the spread of any variant of the covid virus does not spread.
