Breaking News! Dozens of people reportedly drowned during a ritual at Payangan Beach : National Okezone

JEMBER – Deadly events occurred on the south coast Jember, Jawa Timur. As many as a dozen people were reported missing after being dragged by the waves while performing rituals at Payangan Beach, Watu Ulo Hamlet, Sumberejo Village, Ambulu District, Sunday (13/2/2022).

According to the information gathered, two people were found dead, while dozens of missing residents are still being searched. The death toll will continue to grow following the many who have not been found.

Okezone tried to contact a number of related parties regarding the tragic incident. Meanwhile, in the field, the Basarnas Team has found a number of dead victims.

According to the information gathered, all of the victims left with a group led by Hasan from the Tunggal Jati Nusantara Group. They departed from Hasan’s house in Dukuhmencek Village, Sukorambi District with a total of 24 people. They came from the Districts of Panti, Patrang, Sukorambi, Sumbersari, Ajung and Jenggawah.

At that time, the group arrived at Payangan Beach to hold a joint ritual. However, it is not known exactly what rituals they performed. A total of 23 people perform the ritual.

Previously, Saladin, one of the residents who manages Bukit Seroja which is in the north of the incident location, reminded him not to perform the ritual. Because wave in the sea is quite large.


But apparently, this group didn’t care and stayed on the beach to continue the ritual. Not long after, to be precise at around 00:25, as many as 23 people were swept away by the waves of Payangan Beach that came suddenly.
