Breaking News: China Holds Massive Demonstration of Cooking Argentine Meat, Exports Over 100,000 Tons

Demonstration of cooking Argentine meat in China, to which more than 100,000 tons of “bones with meat” were exported

The National Directorate of Animal Production of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries decided to correct the methodology for calculating sales abroad and consumption per person of beef.

The methodological review of the calculation of beef exports, adjusting its composition for the period 2019-2023, made it possible to find relevant numerical differences. Firstly, it was confirmed that exports in 2023 closed at 852,806 thousand tons of bone-in beef equivalent, against 963,690 tons that had been calculated before the methodological correction.

With the corrected series, beef exports grew by 6% in 2023 compared to 2022 and 17% compared to the 2021 record, but showed a decrease of 4% in relation to the volume of 2020.

Sales of bones resulting from deboning (bones with meat) grew significantly as of July 2019, registering a volume of 111 thousand tons of product weight in 2023. In mid-March 2021, a specific tariff position was created, called “Other bones resulting from deboning”, which allows it to be differentiated.

Total export revenues in 2023 were 2,655 million dollars, 19.6% lower compared to the previous year, due to the fall in international prices (-24%).

Making the real numbers transparent also meant correcting the way beef consumption in Argentina was calculated. Through methodological correction, it was detected that the annual intake per inhabitant was 5% higher than what had been calculated in the previous administration.

In detail, it was measured that Argentines consumed 52.22 kg per capita last year, against the 49.84 kg that had been originally calculated.

In this way, the Nation analyzed, cattle farming has been able to increase production during the last four years, supporting exports without affecting domestic consumption.

Regarding farm prices, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Meats and Derivatives of the Argentine Republic (Ciccra) measured an increase for the first month of the year.

In detail, during January 2024 the average price of the farm sold in Cañuelas was $1,307.2 per live kilo, which represented an increase of 5.1% compared to the average for December 2023.

“After the jump recorded in the first part of December, within the framework of the exchange rate adjustment implemented by the new government, and the downward correction verified in the rest of the month, as a result of the lack of validation at the butcher counter, The value of standing property increased at a very slow pace in the first three weeks of January. Only in the last one did it have a more important adjustment,” the organization stated.

Property prices remained almost unchanged during the first three weeks of January

Meanwhile, in the year-on-year comparison, the increase in the price of a live kilo was 337.8%, which showed an increase of 12.6% in real terms (deflating by the general level of the IPIM-Indec).

According to a Ciccra report, it was the values of bulls and cows that continued to rise in the first month of the year. The average price of the “bulls” category had an increase of 15.7% monthly, and that of the “cows” category did the same by 11.0%. In the latter case, it was higher in the special young categories, intended for domestic consumption, and lower in the regular and preserved ones.

The remaining categories were those that had much lower price increases. “The average price of the MEJ rose 5.0% between December 2023 and January 2024. For its part, the unit values of heifers, steers and steers increased 3.8%, 3.7% and 1.3% monthly, respectively,” they commented from the camera.
