Vandalism in jakarta: “Adili Jokowi” Scribbles Spark Debate

Jakarta – The words “Adili⁣ jokowi” have recently emerged ⁤in various regions across Indonesia, sparking a debate on political expression and vandalism.Chairman‌ of the DPP PDIP Deddy Yevri⁤ Sitorus has spoken out against these scribbles, labeling them as acts of vandalism.

“In my opinion, these scribbles on the walls are not ‌quite right because ⁣they can be considered vandalism,” Deddy Sitorus stated when contacted on Saturday, February 8, 2025. ‌despite his stance on the method, he acknowledged the legitimacy of ‌the⁤ voices expressed in the writings.

“It’s legitimate that there ⁤are such votes;⁤ this is a state⁢ of law and a democratic state. The truth is,⁤ like those who report to the KPK or ⁣hold ⁣a demonstration,” said the member of the House of Representatives Commission III.

deddy suspected⁤ that the writings arose from the⁣ anxiety of young people who were reluctant to voice their opinions⁣ publicly. however, he considered the unrest ‍towards Jokowi had indeed been widespread.

“But for me, the emergence of these writings was carried out by young people who did not want to demo or their individual nature. That appearing in many places means that the issue has been widespread,” he⁤ said.

To note, the Satpol PP ⁤ (Public Order Agency) of Solo City has taken action to ‍delete the spray-painted words “Jokowi” found at six different⁢ locations, including Jalan⁣ Prof. Soeharso, Jalan Ki Hajar Dewantoro, and Jalan Tudi Student.

The bridge ⁣in Surabaya has also been a target of vandalism, with ‌the words “Adili Jokowi” appearing in eight different bridge locations. Similarly, the Satpol PP of ⁣Jogja City has intervened to clean up the graffiti, with sightings at the AM Sangaji‍ Jetis intersection, the wall of the Mandala Krida Stadium, and on Jalan Sultan Agung Gondomanan.

The recent incidents have⁤ brought to light the tension between ‌freedom of expression and the maintenance ⁤of public order. As the political climate continues to evolve, the debate on the appropriate channels for political ‌dissent remains ‍a pressing issue.

Dr.astrida Gunawan: Certainly. The phrase “Adili Jokowi”⁤ is a form of political dissent that has grown in popularity due to the widespread discontent among certain segments of ⁢the population.⁢ “Adili” ⁣translates to “defeat”⁣ or “disappoint,” reflecting the frustrations of those who feel that the government has not met their expectations.

Legal and Ethical Perspectives

World-Today-News.com: How do you view the legality and ⁢ethics of such acts‌ of vandalism in a democratic society?

Dr. Astrida Gunawan: ⁤ In a democratic society, freedom⁢ of expression is⁤ a basic right. However, vandalism raises ethical‍ questions, notably when it comes to the impact on public property and ⁤the beyond the bounds of free speech. While the sentiments expressed might potentially be ‍legitimate, the method of expression is frequently enough contentious and can lead to a backlash,‌ with stricter⁤ control over othre forms of peaceful dissent.

Role of Youth in Political Expression

World-Today-News.com: you mentioned that many of those involved are ‌young people. How does this reflect the ‍broader political climate and youth ‍engagement in Indonesia?

Response from PDIP

World-Today-News.com: ‍ PDIP has publicly condemned these scribbles. How do you interpret their ⁣response ‍and its‍ implications?

Dr. ⁢Astrida Gunawan: ‍ PDIP’s stance highlights the tension between expressing dissent and maintaining public order. By‍ labeling the‍ scribbles as vandalism, PDIP⁤ is implicitly acknowledging the legitimacy of the complaints ⁣but‌ also pushing back‍ against the method of expression. It underscores the delicate balance that political parties must strike between ⁤understanding public frustration and upholding the law.

Path Forward

Dr. ‍Astrida Gunawan: To ‍address the ‍issues⁤ effectively, we need a combination of openness, ⁤dialog, and‌ education. Governments and political parties should⁤ create platforms for ⁤public‌ discourse and ensure that grievances⁤ are addressed transparently. Additionally, educating the‌ youth on their rights⁤ and ‌the proper channels for expressing dissent is crucial. It is only through these ⁤measures that we can hope ⁢to see a shift away from destructive forms of⁢ protest and ⁤towards more constructive engagement.
