De Orkaan is recalling all beer bottles because Zaanwater was used for the beer. These are 33cl bottles with the anniversary label, without a deposit.
On the advice of the editors, the beer would have been made with Zaanwater, “good stuff,” according to the editor-in-chief who wishes to remain anonymous, “people swim in it, sail and discharge, so why not in your beer, nice and authentic.”
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority thought differently and issued a negative usage advice: “Consumption of Orkaan beer is strongly discouraged, especially for babies and children under 12.”
So far, there have been no reports of illness or discomfort as a direct result of consuming the beer, but there is a risk of gastrointestinal complaints, especially for people who are already in poor health.
Beer can be exchanged for a bottle of Zaanwater at the editorial staff of De Orkaan between 12:00 and 16:00.
