Politicians in the United Kingdom and beyond have offered their support to British King Charles. Charles, 75, announced on Monday evening that he has cancer.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, among others, has wished Charles a speedy recovery. “I have no doubt that he will be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will wish him well,” he wrote X.

It is not known which form of cancer Charles has. It is clear that it is not prostate cancer. The king resigns from his public duties while he receives treatment.

The leader of the opposition Labor party, Keir Starmer, wishes Charles the best during his recovery on behalf of his party. “We look forward to seeing him back to full health soon,” he wrote X.

“The whole country wishes the king strength. Best wishes to Charles III for a full and speedy recovery,” writes former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson on the same platform.

Biden speaks of ‘incredibly sad news’

There has also been reaction to the news outside the United Kingdom. “Our thoughts are with the king and his family. This is incredibly sad news,” a US State Department spokesperson said. President Joe Biden himself said he was concerned by the diagnosis and would call Charles later.

Former President Donald Trump also made himself heard. “King Charles has cancer. He is a wonderful man, who I have gotten to know well during my presidency. We all pray that he has a quick and full recovery!” he wrote on his own Truth Social.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is thinking of Charles. “The same goes for all other Canadians. We wish him the best and hope for a quick and full recovery.”
