Breaking Barriers: Admiral Lisa Franchetti’s Historic Appointment as Chief of the Navy Marks Progress in Gender Equality

Washington: The US’s new step in gender equality in the military. US President Joe Biden has appointed Admiral Lisa Franchetti as the Chief of the Navy. The appointment was made over the recommendation of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Lisa Franchetti is the nation’s first female Army chief and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Currently, he is the Deputy Head of Operations. He led the US Naval Command in South Korea. Adm. Linda Fagan was appointed to head the US Coast Guard last year, but the Coast Guard is not under the Department of Defense. CIA chief William Burns was also included in Biden’s cabinet.

While Lisa’s appointment also requires Senate approval, Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville’s position is a threat. Tuberville is blocking all senior military appointments to protest the decision to allow travel expenses for officers seeking abortions. If even one senator objected, the proceedings could be delayed.
