Yuki Tsunoda will drive for AlphaTauri next year. That’s what the sister team makes of Red Bull Racing just announced. The young Japanese will take over the seat from Daniil Kvyat and comes next to that Pierre Gasly to sit.
This announcement is no longer a big surprise. Tsunoda has been in the picture at AlphaTauri for some time. The 20-year-old Japanese entered Formula 2 this year, where he regularly scored high. In addition, he is supported by engine supplier Honda, which is why his name started early in the season. When Honda indicated that it would retire from Formula 1 after 2021, its promotion seemed to be in jeopardy.

For Daniil Kvyat it is the end of the story. AlphaTauri does not specifically mention in the announcement that Tsunoda will take over the seat from the Russian, but Pierre Gasly has already been committed for next season. In front of Alexander Albon this also directly means that there is no longer any Plan B. If Red Bull Racing does not continue with him, the sister team will no longer have a seat available.
