Texans: two more years for Brandin Cooks
Finally some stability in the career of Brandin Cooks (WR). The receiver was entering the last year of his contract. But according to ESPN, the receiver just signed a 2-year extension. The financial terms are not yet known.
The former first-round pick still caught 90 passes for 1,037 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. Passed by the Saints, Patriots and Rams before Houston, he exceeded 1,000 yards in six of his eight seasons in the league. He is still only 28 years old, and will therefore be an ally of choice for the progression of Davis Mills.
Brian Flores receives support in his class action against the NFL…
At the beginning of February, Brian Flores filed a complaint against the Dolphins, the Giants, the Broncos and the NFL for racist practices against black coaches. This Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Steve Wilks (ex-HC, Cardinals) and Ray Horton (ex-DC, Cardinals) are joining the class action led by Brian Flores.
The first accuses the Arizona franchise of having hired him as a transition coach for the 2018 season without having really given him a chance to succeed. The accusation of the second targets the Titans who would have used the interviews conducted in 2016 with Ray Horton for the position of head coach to satisfy the Ronney rule when they had already promised the position to Mike Murlakey. The latter’s words in a 2020 interview corroborate this version.
A little later in the day, the two franchises concerned denied the facts in press releases.
…and makes new charges against the Dolphins
Indeed, Brian Flores would have been the victim of pressure during the 2019 season to lose games and secure the Dolphins the first pick of the 2020 draft (which they did not obtain, note).
The prosecution points to a memo sent by Brian Flores on December 4, 2019 to Chris Grier (GM), Tom Garfinkel (President) and Brandon Shore (SVP), where he discusses the “toxic” environment in which it evolves and pressure from owner Stephen Ross to tank.
