In the live broadcast, SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz answered questions from citizens. But suddenly his remarks in the TV studio were interrupted by a loud noise.
On Monday evening, the question and answer session with Green top candidate Annalena Baerbock drew almost three million viewers in front of the screens. A day later, the SPD’s hope for Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, followed suit at the same time it was broadcast. He, too, presented himself to the electorate live in the studio. You can read his most important statements here.
But after around 20 minutes, the 63-year-old was suddenly interrupted in his remarks, because suddenly a loud metallic noise echoed through the studio. While Scholz did not allow himself to be disturbed by this and further elaborated his views on securing skilled workers, some spectators in the studio looked around in alarm.
“It just rang”
“You heard it, it just rattled, something has probably fallen over,” responded NDR editor-in-chief Andreas Cichowicz, who hosted the show, a little later and assured: “Nothing serious, we can continue with the questions.” But the unexpected incident had also caused unrest in front of the screens.
On Twitter, numerous users immediately wondered what might have caused the noise. “Did the hammer and sickle just fall down in Scholz’s wardrobe or what kind of noise was that made?” Scoffed a user. “The cameraman must have just fallen off his stool,” wrote another.
However, some viewers had carefully observed the scene and immediately discovered the breakdown: A camera drone had flown against the outside wall of the studio and fell to the ground.
“Nothing goes unnoticed on Twitter”
The fact that the incident caused a stir on social networks did not go unnoticed by the TV makers. So Cichowicz turned to the audience again and joked: “On Twitter, nothing goes unnoticed … It rattled, we saw immediately: There was puzzles on Twitter – what was going on?”
Then he added, “It was just an outside camera that fell over and unfortunately the noise was transmitted in here. But you see, we are all still alive.” In any case, the camera breakdown brought one thing with it: It provided a brief break between the mostly very serious topics.
