Break between Gündoğan and Volt seems final after Monday | Inland

Gündoğan is at loggerheads with the party after reports of transgressive behavior. According to the thirteen reporters, the MP had been guilty of, among other things, pawing, intimidation and making sexual advances. For this she was first suspended as a party member, and then expelled from the group. Gündoğan subsequently filed charges of libel and defamation against the notifiers and appealed her suspension.

The judge agreed with Gündoğan: the faction had to take her back and pay the MP compensation. The judge also advised that both parties should meet under the guidance of a mediator.

Party leader Laurens Dassen initially promised this, but then demanded that Gündoğan withdraw her declarations against the thirteen reporters. In this he was supported by the board. But Gündoğan announced that she would do the opposite: in the Jinek program she said she would expand her declarations. A few days before, the NRC published an article in which Volt members anonymously told their story about Gündoğan’s behavior.

Her performance at Jinek and the NRC article prompted the board to expel Gündoğan from the party. The parliamentary group also reported that Gündoğan still had to leave, despite the earlier court decision. During a group meeting, the group regulations were adjusted by Dassen and MP Marieke Koekkoek, after which Gündoğan was expelled from the group. She herself was allowed to vote on this, but due to illness she was not present. She did, however, object to it in a letter.

For the time being, it seems that Gündoğan will no longer be a member of Volt after Monday and must continue independently. She has already emphasized several times that she will keep her seat in Parliament after a possible break with Volt. The MP also said she was considering steps after the board announced the expulsion, but to date she has not said what these steps are and whether she will take them. In a statement shortly after the board’s announcement, she wished Volt “much wisdom.”
