Kaufland has secured 150,000 tests for its employees and now wants to start selling tests to customers, they will appear on the shelves in a few days. Many companies in the Czech Republic have a problem purchasing tests through distributors, which are mandatory by government regulation for companies with more than 50 employees.

“In the coming days, it will be possible to buy antigen tests with a nasal collection in stores; in the second half of March, a second variant of the test will be added to the offer, which the virus can detect from saliva. Sales of both models of rapid tests to the Czech market have been approved by the Ministry of Health, “said Renata Maierl, spokeswoman for Kaufland. The price of the test is 150 crowns and the number is limited to one per customer. Next week, Kaufland wants to expand its offer with a family package with 25 pieces.

The first type of antigen test (Flowflex SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test) works on the principle of sampling when swabbing from the front of the nose. The results are visible within 30 minutes and are 98.8 percent accurate by clinical trial. The second test, from saliva, achieves an accuracy of 95.8 percent.

The test offered by Kaufland is on the list of approved exemptions of the Ministry of Health. Therefore, if a self-employed person or a company buys one, he can claim a discount of 60 crowns from health insurance. In this form, the state contributes to a maximum of four tests per employee or self-employed person (OSVČ) per month.

The offer of hot goods in the form of tests will be expanded in a number of weeks by a smaller chain of Billa supermarkets. “The priority for our company remains a sufficient supply of tests for our own employees, in any case we perceive the current situation as very serious, so we plan to include the tests in the regular range. This should happen in the next week or two, “said spokeswoman Dana Bratánková. The company is currently selecting a supplier. In particular, it expects to reduce the occupancy of consumption centers.

The Tesco and Albert chains also look in a similar direction. They find out about the possibilities with suppliers or think about the offer. The chains already have FFP2 respirators, drapes or disinfectants on their shelves.

According to ČTK, Globus also wants to start selling antigen tests in the near future. He is currently negotiating with the supplier.

Tests for home coronavirus testing, which can be performed without the presence of a healthcare professional, are also sold by domestic pharmacy networks.
