The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, proposed to integrate the Supreme Court of Justice Cristiano Zanin, his own lawyer, who managed at the time to annul the trials that led to the imprisonment of the president.
This proposal will be analyzed in the Senate, and if approved, Zanin will join the country’s highest court to fill the vacancy of Ricardo Lewandowski, recently retired.
“He will be a great magistrate,” said the Brazilian president in statements to the press, and highlighted Zanin’s “qualities as a lawyer.”
The summit of South American leaders begins in Brazil
Zanin has been Lula’s personal lawyer for ten years and represented him in the different cases he faced for corruption, linked to Operation Lava Jato, in which other politicians and businessmen were involved.
At that time, Lula was convicted and imprisoned, but was finally acquitted in 2021 thanks to Zanin’s task.
The 47-year-old legal adviser graduated in 1999 from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, from where he graduated as a specialist in Civil Law.
