/ world today news/ At the 62nd summit of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), Brazilian President Lula da Silva called on the member countries to use a common currency for commercial payments instead of the US dollar.

He stated that this would be beneficial in reducing costs and promoting integration. “It will be a specific currency for regional trade without undermining the use of countries’ national currencies,” Lula said. The Bolivian president also called on members of the Southern Common Market and other countries in the region to reduce dependence on the US dollar and look for an alternative currency.
