Brazilian Women’s Team with Marta and Cristiane Set to Compete in SheBelieves Cup Semifinals Against Canada

With veterans Marta and Cristiane back, coach Arthur Elias called up the Brazilian women’s team this Friday to compete in the SheBelieves Cup, a tournament held annually in the United States. Brazil will face Canada in one of the semifinals, on April 6, in Atlanta. The second game will be on the 9th, in Columbus, against Japan or the USA, who are in the other semifinal.

– We recently came from a competition that was very important for the Brazilian team, the Gold Cup, with a format very similar to the Olympic games. I’m sure the team came out of this competition much stronger. The result did not come with the title, but it was another phase that left us with the conviction that the path outlined is being well done and executed by the players – said the coach.

The coach kept only nine players from the group that finished runners-up in the Concacaf Gold Cup, which ended last Sunday. Brazil won five matches until reaching the decision, when they ended up defeated by the USA 1-0, last Sunday.

In the renewed call for SheBelieves, The returns of Marta and Cristiane stand out, both 38 years old. Goalkeeper Thainá, from América-MG, and midfielder Laís Estevam, from Palmeiras, are the main new additions. Also back is goalkeeper Lorena, from Grêmio, who was a member of the national team until she suffered a serious ligament injury.

The SheBelieves Cup will be the penultimate opportunity for the coach to observe players before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The next FIFA Date will be at the end of May, and in July there will be another opportunity for friendlies, between the 8th and 16th, but with the definitive team that will compete in the Olympics, between July 25th and August 10th.
