Brazilian Supreme Court Orders Raid on Bolsonaro’s Home Over Alleged Vaccine Certificate Falsification

the supposed falsification of thousands of vaccination certificates against covid-19and the adulteration of data in health systems and records also related to vaccination led the judge of the Brazilian Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, to order a raid on the home of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

On Wednesday morning the Brazilian police arrived at Bolsonaro’s home looking for evidence in the face of fraud allegations and falsification of the documents and statements of the judge who indicated that there is a “plausible, logical and solid line of investigation that suggests that the former president may be personally involved in the alleged irregularities.

Bolsonaro, 68 years old, denied the accusations, rejected the police action and asserted that a false case is being brewed against him. “There is no adulteration on my part. I did not get vaccinated, period, I never denied it, ”the former president told reporters in front of his house:“ I am really surprised by the search and seizures ”.

Bolsonaro, highly questioned about the handling of the pandemic who left more than 700,000 dead in Brazil, said the police also seized his cell phone and inspected his family’s vaccination records.

They sought to circumvent restrictions

The first investigations of the case point to an alleged “criminal association” suspected of inserting “false vaccination data against covid-19 into public health systems”, the Federal Police (PF) reported in a statement. In this way they sought to “evade” the sanitary restrictions imposed by the Brazilian and US authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.

Although the statement does not mention Jair Bolsonaro, in the report to the magistrate the Federal Police indicated that the former president was entered into the records as if he had taken two doses of the immunizer, last August and October. His wife and his 12-year-old daughter, advisers and a federal deputy they would also have benefited from these alleged fraudulent registrationsaccording to the Federal Police.

During his government, Bolsonaro came to joke that those citizens who became immunized could become a “crocodile.”

How did you enter the United States?

After the defeat in his presidential aspirations in October of last year, Jair Bolsonaro decided to travel to the United States in Decembera country that had maintained restrictions on covid-19 for passengers arriving on international flights, including presenting vaccination certificates.

With this restrictive measure, Bolsonaro, who has already acknowledged that he did not get vaccinated, entered the United States without impedimenttwo days before the leftist Lula da Silva assumed the presidency.

“During my trips to the United States, I was never required to have a vaccination certificate,” Bolsonaro explained. to the Jovem Pan network. An ally of Donald Trump, Bolsonaro remained in Orlando, Florida, until March 30. It is unknown how the US authorities handled the stay of the Brazilian leader, after his term ended on January 1.

The police also reported that the operation included 16 search warrants, in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, and six arrest warrants.

According to Brazilian media, the Federal Police arrested, among others, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former deputy and considered his right-hand man during the presidency. “Conspiring against public health is a very serious corruption,” said the Minister of Justice and Security, Flávio Dino.

Bolsonaro was summoned to testify at the headquarters of the PFbut his lawyers recommended that he remain silent.

“He will go as soon as possible (…) but we need to access the case,” Paulo Cunha Bueno, the former president’s defender, told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. Since his return to Brazil, Bolsonaro has been questioned twice by the Federal Police in relation to the case under investigation.
