Brazilian Soccer Star Dani Alves Faces Legal Battle Over Alleged Song Theft: From Prison to Courtroom

Player is on parole after being sentenced to four and a half years in prison in Spain.

The website UOL reports in Brazil that Dani Alves will return to the courtroom, now in his home country. Waiting on conditional release for the resolution of the appeals presented in Spain, after being sentenced in Barcelona to four and a half years in prison for rape, the Brazilian player is being accused of having inappropriately appropriated a song written by two country composers.

At issue is the theme entitled ‘Avião’ launched by the defense in 2020 as part of a UN campaign against disinformation during the covid-19 pandemic. Giuliano Matheus and his son Thiago Matheus say they are the authors of the song, which they presented to Dani Alves at a meeting in Italy in 2017.

In that meeting, the Brazilian defender had shown interest in entering the world of music, having even, according to the accusation, suggested some verses, which were accepted by Giuliano. But commercial differences ended up preventing the song from being released.

In 2020, Dani Alves released a music video for the song in the UN project – which featured the participation of several Brazilian artists -, which led to a legal complaint by the composers in 2021: “He fraudulently excluded the names of the true creators. In other words, , to carry out a campaign against fake news, the UN used a work of false authorship!”, accused the two composers.
