Brazilian President Lula da Silva has expressed his grief over the death of Brazilian football “legend” Edison Arantes de Nascimento “Pelé”.
“I had an advantage that many young Brazilians didn’t have – Lula said on social media -. I saw Pelé play in the Pacaimio and Morumbi stadiums”.
Lula added that Pelé wasn’t just playing football, “he was putting in impressive performances”, noting that only a few have raised Brazil’s name the way Pelé has.
Saying goodbye to Pelé, Da Silva said that Edison is now playing Coutinho, Didi, Karincha, Socrates and Maradona, referring to a group of prominent players who died before Pelé’s departure.

Pele died on Thursday evening at the age of 82After a long battle with cancer.
Pele was hospitalized on November 29, and despite the treatment sessions, his body didn’t respond.
Pelé is considered one of the greatest icons of Brazilian football, especially since he won the World Cup on 3 occasions in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
Pelé also had a political role in Brazil, having become the first sports minister in Brazilian history between 1995 and 1998.
I had the privilege that the younger Brazilians didn’t have: I saw Pelé play, live, at Pacaembu and Morumbi. Play, don’t. I saw Pele give a show. Because when he took the ball he always did something special, which often ended up in the goal.
