The parties discussed in detail the sharply worsened situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. During the conversation, serious concern was expressed about the growing number of civilian casualties, and the fundamental importance of an early ceasefire, the evacuation of foreign citizens from the Gaza Strip, and ensuring unimpeded access to the enclave for humanitarian aid was emphasized.
Taking into account Brazil’s presidency this month, the UN Security Council has substantively examined various aspects of joint work with a view to taking urgent and effective measures through the UN to de-escalate the crisis and truly advance the peace process on a generally accepted international legal basis, providing for the creation of an independent Palestinian state coexisting in peace and security with Israel.
During an exchange of views on Ukrainian issues, Vladimir Putin outlined his fundamental assessments of the destructive line of the Kiev regime and its Western patrons, and reaffirmed Russia’s openness to dialogue while the Kiev authorities fulfill known Russian conditions and take into account new realities. The President of Brazil, in turn, spoke in favor of finding ways to resolve the conflict through political and diplomatic means.
Both sides have expressed a desire to continue to closely cooperate within the framework of BRICS and the G20, where Russia and Brazil respectively chair next year, as well as to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in a variety of areas.
Vladimir Putin and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva agreed to continue contacts, the release said.
