Brazilian President declares 3 days of national mourning after plane crash

President Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva mourns the Voepass plane crash in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo state. Lula announced a 3-day mourning period.

“In memory of the 61 victims of the terrible accident in Vinhedo, we have declared official mourning for 3 days in this country,” said Lula through his ​​official X account, Saturday (10/8/2024 ).

Meanwhile, as reported by CNN, Vinhedo City Hall also announced a three-day mourning period. This is to honor the victims of the plane crash that happened on Friday afternoon (9/8) local time.

The United States Embassy in Brazil also expressed solidarity with the families of the 61 who were killed in a plane crash in the city of Vinhedo. The US regrets the deadly incident.

“We express our solidarity with the families of the victims of the Voepass plane crash in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo state. We are sorry for this terrible accident!” the US embassy said in a post X.

61 people killed

Voepass airline previously said the number of people killed in the plane crash was 61. The victims consisted of 57 passengers and 4 crew members.

“The company regrets to announce that all 61 people on board Flight 2283 died at the scene,” Voepass said in a statement.

“At this time, Voepass Linhas Aereas prioritizes providing unlimited support to the families of the victims and cooperating effectively with the authorities to investigate the cause of the accident, ” said the company.
