The Baller League no longer lacks big names. At the match day on Monday (March 11, 2024) in Cologne’s Motorworld, the squad of prominent kickers will have a new name added to them.
As it was announced last Monday (March 4th), former Bundesliga striker Ailton will be hunting for goals. The 50-year-old Brazilian is making his comeback in Cologne; he will appear as a “wildcard player” for the Calcio Berlin team in the game against VfR Zimbos (8.30 p.m./Twitch, Joyn and ProSieben MAXX).

The Brazilian is considered one of the most dazzling figures in Bundesliga history – and also left a lasting impression on the sport. He was the decisive man in Werder Bremen’s championship in 2004, becoming top scorer with 28 goals and becoming Germany’s footballer of the year.

He then went to Schalke 04 for a year, became runner-up, but the great luck he had in Bremen did not materialize. Ailton became a globetrotter, playing in Serbia, Ukraine and China, among other places.
On Monday evening he will be seen in a real top game at the Cologne Motorworld. Because both Calcio Berlin and the VfR Zimbos are currently part of the Baller League’s leading quartet with 13 points each – the winner of the direct duel could be top of the table after the match day. Former Schalke and Frankfurt star Bastian Oczipka has already played six games at Calcio Berlin.

The Baller League can already present top-class names in its first season. The co-founders Lukas Podolski (38) and Mats Hummels (35) were not allowed to play yet because of their ongoing careers, but many other former stars were.
At the end of March, ex-Bayern and Real Madrid star Zé Roberto was on the pitch, as was Kevin Großkreutz, a German world champion from 2014. Max Kruse and Martin Harnik were also there.
Stars like Moritz Leitner (formerly BVB), Christian Clemens (1. FC Köln), Mehmet Ekici (Werder Bremen) are always part of the teams. Stars like Kevin-Prince Boateng, Hans Sarpei, Lukas Podolski, Christoph Kramer, Felix Lobrecht and MontanaBlack are on the sidelines.
