Brazilian Glover Teixeira wins UFC light heavyweight belt

the brazilian Glover Teixeira defeated the Polish Jan Blachowicz in the fight for the light heavyweight title, in the UFC 267, this Saturday (30), in the octagon on Yas Island, in Abu Dhabi.

Teixeira, 42, was supposed to face Blachowicz on September 25, at UFC 266, but the fight was postponed and transferred to this Saturday.

Blachowicz was making his second title defense after defeating Israel Adesanya in March via unanimous decision. Teixeira was in his second fight for the UFC title, after being defeated seven years ago in the fight for the belt against Jon Jones.

Teixeira defeated Blachowicz via submission and, according to the UFC, became the second oldest champion in Ultimate’s history.

Realized dream

In an interview after the fight, Teixeira said he felt “incredible” after the victory.

“That’s what I’ve been dreaming about for 20 years,” he said.

He said that there was a time when he thought he would never be champion, but he continued training.

“I love it, I still believe, I discipline myself the way I have to. I am the owner of this baby.”

The UFC has been holding events in Abu Dhabi as a result of the new coronavirus pandemic and its resulting restrictions.
