Brazilian footballer Dani Alves, accused of having raped a young woman in December 2022 in Barcelona, today reiterated his innocence in the case, whose trial is over, although the verdict will only be known in weeks.

Alves, who played for FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, among others, is accused of having raped a young woman in the bathroom of a nightclub, in December 2022, and maintains that the relationship was consensual.
The 40-year-old defender, said the prosecution, has a version that does not match that of the victim, who has “an absolutely credible story” of having suffered violence and rape, while the Brazilian has changed his version four times since being detained.
Furthermore, he refused to answer any questions other than those asked by his defense, in an inquiry that lasted 15 minutes.
The accusation therefore asks for nine years in prison for the footballer, as well as the payment of 150 thousand euros to the victim and freedom under supervision for 10 years after leaving prison.
“If a woman says to stop, it means to stop. Alves cannot continue without consent”, argued the prosecution.
The Brazilian’s lawyer, for his part, asked for the defense’s acquittal, who “could not have known that the plaintiff had withdrawn her consent”.
According to the lawsuit, Alves was at the nightclub in Barcelona and met the victim, with other people, inviting her to dance and then to a secluded room in the common space, in which he forced her to have sexual relations, the defendant argues. accusation, in a “climate of anxiety and terror” for the young woman.
Today, the last day before the end of the proceedings, featured several testimonies, from people who accompanied the complainant to the nightclub to a psychology professional, who confirmed symptoms of post-traumatic syndrome, while witnesses on the defendant’s side, his wife and a friend assured that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
Dani Alves is one of the most decorated footballers in the history of sport, winning 23 trophies at Barça alone, between 2008 and 2016, and was playing for Pumas, in Mexico, when he was arrested, leading the club to fire him immediately.
According to convention in Spain, the verdict will only be known within a few weeks, although the process has now been closed.
