Brazilian Dani Alves is one of the most famous footballers of the last two decades. The now 39-year-old belonged to FC Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, who taught all of Europe to fear for several years. He won the Champions League three times with the Catalans and the Spanish championship six times. The attacking full-back also collected numerous titles at Juventus Turin and Paris Saint-Germain and FC Sevilla. He took part in three World Cups for his country Brazil, most recently in Qatar a few months ago. But then the crash followed. Dani Alves has been in jail for months. The reason: rape allegations.
Dani Alves in jail after rape allegations
The crime is said to have taken place on December 30th in a nightclub in Barcelona. A 23-year-old had reported the footballer for rape. On January 20, Dani Alves, whose full name is Daniel Alves da Silva, was arrested. During the interrogations he is said to have smothered himself in contradictions. At first he denied any sexual contact, later he admitted sex, but spoke of consensual actions.

Dani Alves: Brazil kicker is said to have gone on hunger strike in detention
Now there are reports in the Brazilian media that Dani Alves is said to have gone on a hunger strike in Spanish custody. The reason for the drastic step is said to have been his wife’s decision to separate from him. The 29-year-old Joana Sanz explained the end of the relationship in emotional words, in which recurring insults can be read. Alves is said to be “completely devastated and very nervous,” reports the É Assim portal.

A court date for Dani Alves has not yet been set. Whenever it happens, it could end up in jail for the defender. In Spain, the criminal offense of “sexual assault with penetration” carries a penalty of between four and twelve years. The public prosecutor is asking for a sentence of eight to ten years. A new law against sexually motivated violence has been in force in Spain since last year. The law requires explicit consent to sexual activity, and any non-consensual activity is considered rape.
