Brazilian actress gave birth at the age of 56: “A blood test? That doctor had gone mad, I thought” | The best of the web

A Brazilian actress gave birth at the age of 56. Fertilization happened naturally, making the surprise complete. “The doctor suggested a blood test to be sure. I thought he had gone mad,” said Claudia Raia.

The woman was awarded several times as best actress in her country, including for her role in the telenovela ‘Ti Ti Ti’. On Instagram she can count on more than 8.6 million followers. The son and daughter she left over from a previous marriage are now 25 and 20 years old respectively.

And now suddenly Luca joins them. The sprout, who was born five days ago, is the crowning achievement of her love with fellow actor Jarbas Homem de Mello.

“When the doctor initially suggested a blood test, I asked if he had lost his mind. I was 55 years old! Waiting a day and a half for the result, however, was not something I wanted to do. I bought a Clearblue and it showed that I was already more than three weeks pregnant.”

Egg cells frozen

Raia had her eggs frozen at the age of 48. Two years later she was told that she had entered menopause and that all hope was gone.

In 2021, the couple took one last chance, this time through IVF. When it turned out that no embryos were formed, they resigned themselves to their fate. However, a doctor later noticed that Raia had started ovulating again, but neither of them considered pregnancy.

Risks

It happens very exceptionally that women over the age of fifty still become pregnant naturally. There are also the necessary risks involved, for example, think of the greater chance of a miscarriage.

Fortunately, Raia was spared from all that misery. “He is already claiming his spot. We are overflowing with happiness and love! Welcome, Luca!” she wrote on her Instagram page.
