Brazil will remain in the oil market as long as there is demand

The Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil, Alexandre Silveira, He said at an oil conference in Rio de Janeiro that as long as there is demand for hydrocarbons in the world, the country will remain in that market, guaranteeing “sustainable” exploitation.

“We will not give in to hypocrisy, as long as there is demand for gas and oil, Brazil will remain in that market. (…) We are ready to supply the global market,” he emphasized during the opening of the Rio, Oil, Gas and Energy (ROG-e) congress.

In this regard, the head of the mining portfolio said that Brazil will ensure that the country’s reserves are used “to the maximum, in a sustainable manner,” as the country is committed to its energy future.

Silveira gave the example of a controversial project by the state oil company Petrobras which aims to exploit hydrocarbon deposits in a marine basin located in front of the mouth of the Amazonasan area considered to be highly vulnerable from a socio-environmental point of view.

Oil for Brazil

“We will move forward responsibly, meeting all environmental and social criteria,” he said.

The project has the support of the Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula and Silvaalthough it has not yet been published on paper because it does not have the approval of the environmental authorities.

The topic was also addressed on the same stage by the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, He said that the need to replenish reserves “is serious” and that the company will therefore continue working to explore the questioned area.

The state company’s top management stressed that crude oil from offshore fields on the horizon pre-salt oil tankerwhich are the main reserve of Brazilhave a carbon footprint that is “half the world average,” and said the company will continue to produce oil more efficiently.

“We will continue to produce fuels “increasingly green,” said Chambriard, who added that the idea is to reach zero emissions by 2050 or “maybe before.”
