Brazil will be our best chance for points

(Motorsport-Total.com) – “When I think about the remaining races this year, Brazil stands out for me as the race where there are the most possibilities,” reveals Williams driver Alexander Albon before the two final triples -Headers of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

As soon as the premier class returns from its “autumn break”, it will first race in Austin, Mexico and Brazil, then after a two-week break again in Las Vegas, Qatar and finally at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Albon said about the race in Brazil: “If you want to score points in a midfield team, you should try here.” And in fact, Interlagos has always been a track that has been good for surprises in recent years.

In the previous season, for example, Aston Martin took its only podium place in the last nine races of the season, a year earlier Kevin Magnussen sensationally put the Haas on pole and Mercedes celebrated its only win of the season later on the weekend.

However, the track in Sao Paulo was not a good place for Williams recently. Logan Sargeant finished eleventh last year, but the last time they scored points there was in 2017, when Felipe Massa finished seventh in his last home race in Formula 1.

Nevertheless, Albon is optimistic for this year – or precisely because of that. Monaco and Singapore, for example, are “tracks on which we were not good in the past and on which we were very good this year,” said the former Red Bull driver.

Brazil “pretty similar to Monaco and Singapore”

In Monaco in May, Albon scored the first Williams points of the year in ninth place. Most recently in Singapore they didn’t score any points, but rookie Franco Colapinto narrowly missed the top 10 in eleventh place, which gives Albon hope.

Because the route in Brazil is “pretty similar to Monaco and Singapore,” he emphasizes, even if there are of course “no walls” there. But low speeds are the focus on all courses. Albon explains: “These are routes that have always been painful for us.”

“And this year we were actually quite good at them,” he emphasizes. And in general, Williams’ form curve is currently pointing upwards. “I think in many ways we feel like the car has become a lot faster,” he reveals.

Although we “didn’t always achieve the desired results in the last few races,” admits Albon, “but we did have the energy [im Team] is good. It’s really nice and it creates a very positive atmosphere when the car is good.”

It is “very motivating” for everyone in the team that they currently have the chance to score points every weekend. And in his opinion this opportunity could be greatest in Brazil.
