Brazil wants to host Club World Cup after Copa America

Clearly, Brazil is not losing the North: after having jumped at the opportunity to host the Copa America in place of the Argentine neighbor, the country carioca now wants to do the same with the Club World Cup.

The Club World Cup was to be held next December in Japan, but the Land of the Rising Sun, which recently hosted the Olympic Games, has withdrawn this time for health reasons. A replacement must therefore be found and Brazil has applied, confirmed the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes.

“This is Rio’s wish and we are working on it,” he said. “There are contacts, but it does not seem easy because the wish was that it be organized in Asia”, however specifies Paes. Not for a turning point if this is the case, because the Asian confederation has hosted the event since 2015 (twice in Japan, twice in Qatar, twice in the Emirates).

Chelsea, European champion, and Al-Ahly, African champion, are currently confirmed participants in the competition, which will take place from December 9 to 19, 2021.
