On Tuesday 11 October Silvane dos Santos Costa (25) was found killed in her own home.
The incident took place in the city of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil.
Two weeks after the murder, his neighbor, Antonio Marcos de Araújo, was arrested and suspected, according to Jam Press news agency.
He was tracked down
Antonio is said to have fled his hometown shortly after the murder, but was quickly tracked down, according to Jam Press.
According to local Brazilian authorities, Antonio – who is married – was obsessed with his younger neighbor. He is said to have tried it on repeated occasions without success.
He is now accused of breaking into Silvane’s apartment and strangling her to death.
A police chief named Fábio Silva tells the Brazilian news agency Channel 29 that Antonio knew the many habits of Silvane:
– He knew when he left the house in the morning and when he came back. Some days she would constantly sit on the balcony and wait for her, she tells the agency.
Police chief Silva told Brazilian media that the young woman was wearing a party dress and that she was missing her underwear when she was found.
He claims the cause of death was suffocation, which is confirmed in a report from the Legal Medical Institute, according to Jam Press.
According to local media, Antonio confessed to the murder Fat Amazonianreproduced in Jam Press.

Found by her sister
It was Silvane’s sister who found his body two days after the alleged murder.
She had failed to make contact with her sister in 72 hours, and therefore decided to search for her apartment, writes Jam Press.
Silvane’s friends and family are now trying to demand justice for the young woman’s death, through demonstrations and various posts on social media. At the end of October they filled the streets of Urucará with white ribbons and balloons in honor of Silvane.
Many also had posters with slogans such as “stop killing us” and “it wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last”, according to Fat Amazonian. Several residents are said to have shouted the same slogans.
Furthermore, the news site writes that the city has long had problems with “senseless killing of young people”. They also claim that the police barely investigate the murders and that for this reason there is an inherent anger throughout the city.
Under the hashtag #queremosjustica on Instagram, several Brazilians say the authorities are neglecting Silvane’s murder and that the police have put a stop to the investigation.
