RIO DE JANEIRO, 13 Sept. (Xinhua) – Brazil will simplify control measures for the arrival of tourists in the country imposed with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government said.
In a decree published today Tuesday by the Official Journal of the Union and which has the authorization of the National Agency for Health Surveillance (Anvisa) of the State, people who will arrive in the country from today will only have to comply with some health requirements.
According to Anvisa, to enter Brazil it will only be necessary to show the vaccination certificate or a COVID-19 test with negative result. The easing for tourists to enter the country follows the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO), which stresses that “testing and quarantine policies must be reviewed regularly” to ensure they are revoked when they are no longer needed.
Despite the measure, Anvisa reinforces WHO’s alert on the need for alternatives for unvaccinated people, such as the COVID-19 test.
Brazil is the second country in the world with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19, with over 685,000 deaths, and the third by number of cases, with over 34.5 million positives.
