Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, registered 59 new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the lowest number of victims in one day in the last 19 months, reported this Sunday (07.11 .2021) official sources.
The Latin American giant did not register such a low number of deaths from covid in one day since April 5 of last year, when the pandemic was in its first weeks and 54 deaths were recorded.
The sharp drop in the daily death toll, from 328 on Saturday to 59 this Sunday, is relative because the Health Ministry recognizes that the numbers generally drop on weekends, when there are fewer officials processing the data.
In addition, four of the 27 states of the country did not transmit their daily data this Sunday, although none of them is among the most populated in the country. The states that delayed the delivery of their figures were Brasilia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Tocantins.
Contagions at their lowest levels
According to the bulletin released this Sunday by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), with the 59 new deaths and the 6,115 new infections registered in the last 24 hours, the total number of victims of covid in Brazil amounted to 609,447 and the cases to 21,880,439 since the start of the pandemic in February last year.
These numbers confirm the Latin American giant, with its 213 million inhabitants, as the second country in the number of deaths from coronavirus in the world, surpassed only by the United States, and as the third in number of infections, behind the United States. and India.
Despite the high accumulated figures, the averages of deaths and cases continue at their lowest levels in several months, after having fallen close to 80% since last June.
According to the Ministry of Health, as of this Saturday about 157.6 million Brazilians, 74% of the 213 million inhabitants of the country, had received the first dose of some of the covid vaccines and 123.9 million (58 , 2%) already had the complete immunization schedule.
