Rio de Janeiro, Sep 9 (EFE) .- Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic in the world, registered 753 new deaths from covid in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of victims to more than 585,000, although the death rate fell this Thursday to its lowest level in almost ten months, the government reported.

The average number of deaths from covid in Brazil in the last seven days stood at 466 a day this Thursday, the lowest since that registered on November 13 of last year, when the Latin American giant recorded an average of 389 deaths per day.

The current average of deaths from coronavirus is almost seven times lower than that measured on April 12, when, at the peak of the second wave of the pandemic, Brazil reached a record average of 3,124 deaths per day.

According to the bulletin released this Thursday by the Ministry of Health, the country of 213 million inhabitants also registered 30,891 new infections by covid in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases already close to 21 million.

According to official figures, Brazil has accumulated 585,174 victims and 20,958,899 infections since the beginning of the pandemic, in February of last year, which confirms it as the second country with the most victims of covid in the world, after the United States, and the third with the most cases, after the North American country and India.

The Ministry of Health indicated that of the almost 21 million Brazilians who contracted covid, 20 million have already recovered and were discharged, which corresponds to 95.44% of the total, while 371,163 patients continue under medical observation, which is equivalent to 1.77% of those infected.

Hospitalizations also continued to decline and, according to a report released this Thursday by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the largest health research center in Latin America, the occupancy rate of intensive care units this week was below 60% in 90% of the 27 Brazilian states and in 85% of the regional capitals.

Brazil has already applied 203.9 million vaccines and that 135.5 million Brazilians received the first dose of one of the immunizers and 68.4 million completed the immunization cycle.

In recent weeks, immunizations have been concentrated in the adolescent population (minors between 12 and 17 years old) and in the reinforcement of older adults. EFE
