Brazil registers for the first time more than 220,000 cases of coronavirus in one day and exceeds 24.5 million infections


The Brazilian authorities have confirmed more than 220,000 cases of coronavirus during the last day, which represents a new maximum in the South American country, which brings the total number of infections above 24.5 million since the start of the pandemic.

The Brazilian Ministry of Health has indicated on its website that during the last 24 hours 224,567 positives and 570 deaths have been registered, bringing the total figures to 24,535,884 and 624,413, respectively.

Of the total cases, more than 108,000 have been detected in the southeastern region of the country, which is currently listed as the epicenter of the pandemic in Brazil. In this area, 283 deaths have also been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Likewise, it has highlighted that the accumulated incidence is 11,676 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the total number of recovered from COVID-19 in the country amounts to 22,036,168 since the start of the pandemic. On the other hand, there are more than 1.8 million active cases.
