The Port of Imbituba in Brazil, reported that it has ended 2021 with 6,874,779 tons moved, a volume that consolidates a new annual record for the port complex and a 17.1% growth in operations compared to 2020.
The port entity pointed out that from January to December, 285 moorings were made in Imbituba, mainly of ships loaded with imported products, which is why the number of ships served increased by 21.8% compared to the same period in 2020.
Under this context, the governor of Santa Catarina, Carlos Moisés, indicated that “Santa Catarina’s economy is growing well above the national average and, as a result, the Port of Imbituba has another historic year. Best of all, there is great growth potential for the future and the port will play an important role in the economic development of Santa Catarina in the coming years.”
Petroleum coke, in the calcined and non-calcined modalities, achieved an important leadership in the cargo portfolio, with 28.4% of the total volume handled (1.95 million tons) and a growth of approximately 92% in relation to to 2020. Both trade flows were transported abroad, with a predominance of import operations from the United States.
The good performance of the port entity made it head the list of the largest monthly volumes recorded in the history of the port for four months, these being July (717.8 thousand t); October (694.4 thousand tons); May (681.9 thousand t) and August (667.1 thousand t). In addition to maintaining the portfolio, Imbituba managed new products, such as the first large export of canola in Brazil and the transshipment of cables for the new electric power transmission line in Florianopolis.
The Port Authority is still finalizing the financial results, but projections indicate a 20.9% increase in net income and a growth of around 30% in net income, compared to what was achieved in 2020.
