Despite his excellent start to the season with Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus was not called up by Tite for Brazil’s friendlies before the World Cup.
Jesus got off to a great start to the season, recording four goals and three assists in his first seven appearances with the Gunners.
“I really respect Tite’s decision”
However, despite his form, he was not included in the Brazil squad for the next friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia.
Jesus insisted that he has no grudge against Titus, as he promised to keep trying to carry out his plans.
“I respect the manager’s decision a lot, I respect Tite, all the staff. As I said, I’m Brazilian, I will always support the team,” he told ESPN Brazil.
“And I also respect the other players, who have many qualities. I will continue to do my best to have the opportunity to play again.”
Strong competition up front
Jesus is one of the many offensive options Brazil have ahead of the World Cup. Richarlison, Roberto Firmino and Pedro, the Flamengo forward, all capable of being on the front line, were kept in the group, at Jesus’ expense.
The former Manchester City player made 56 appearances for Seleçao and scored 19 goals.
In the absence of international football, the 25-year-old should be fully fit for Arsenal’s return to the North London derby against Tottenham on Saturday 1 October.
